Join us the second Sunday of every month for BODY TALK in our RISE/ HEAL room.
BODY TALK is a peer-led support group for people dealing with any issues related to body dysmorphia, body hatred or recovery from eating disorders. This group will be moderated by Amanda di Bartolomeo, PhD / CBT Therapist.
We feel it is an important part of our mission at EVERYBODY to host a monthly group like this to support our members in their journeys towards healing, strengthening and radical self-love. This is an essential element that most gyms conspicuously lack, and we seek to provide it as part of our regular programming that is available to non-members as well as members of the gym. While no one will be turned away for lack of funds, a suggested $2-5 donation towards the group for rental of the space is appreciated.
The group will center people of trans/non-binary/queerbodied/disabled/POC experience, but be open to those who are cisgendered, non-POC, nondisabled, non queer-identified as well. We welcome anyone who struggles with body issues, but we choose to center those of trans/non-binary/queerbodied/disabled and POC experience because these identities are often marginalized in these kinds of support groups and we want to make sure that these voices are explicitly given space. We also want to explicitly include people of all abilities and recognize that ability issues are often overlooked in spaces that address body dysmorphia and other issues around body image.
The group will focus on people who have a history of body dysmorphia, body hatred, eating disorders, body trauma and/or unhealthy body image or self-concept. It will be open to anyone who identifies as having a history of body dysmorphia or body hatred. One focus of the group is to address the specific issues that can arise when body dysmorphia, ability, and/or eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia overlap with gender dysmorphia. This is an overlap very specific to the trans/non-binary/queer community that is often overlooked in body issue groups and we seek to provide a space to address this particular intersection of body issues, among others.
